The short answer

There is no official GTA 6 install size. On October 7, 2026 we re-checked the PlayStation listing, the Xbox listing, the Rockstar Games Store page and Rockstar's editions page. None shows a size or a free-space requirement. Confirmed GTAbase also says Rockstar has not announced one. Confirmed Plan for a large game, then adjust when the number appears. Pre-load opens November 12, 2026. Confirmed

A free-space plan

Our planning figure is 200 to 250 GB free, based on GTANerd's published estimate of 200 to 250 GB free. Estimate It is a margin, not a requirement. The existing download size guide lists the estimates and why we do not repeat leaked numbers.

What is left if you set aside 250 GB (nominal capacity)
Console and driveOfficial built-in capacityLeft after 250 GB, before system software
PS5 Digital Edition825 GB575 GB
PS5 (disc)1 TB750 GB
PS5 Pro2 TB1,750 GB
Xbox Series X1 TB750 GB
Xbox Series S512 GB262 GB
Xbox Series S1 TB750 GB

Capacities come from Sony and Microsoft pages. Confirmed The last column is our arithmetic using 1 TB as 1,000 GB. Estimate Both companies reserve part of the drive for system software, so real free space is smaller. Confirmed The 512 GB Series S is the tight one: GTAbase puts usable space at about 364 GB, which would leave roughly 114 GB after our margin. Unconfirmed

PS5: M.2 SSD facts

PlayStation's support page lists these requirements. Confirmed

You can play PS5 and PS4 games from the M.2 drive. A USB drive stores PS5 games, but they must be moved back to the internal SSD to play. PS4 games can play from USB. Confirmed All of one game's data must sit in the same place. Confirmed See our PS5 Pro and SSD guide for picks.

Xbox: expansion card facts

Seagate says its Storage Expansion Card for Series X|S matches the internal SSD speed and plays games directly from the card, including Series X|S optimized titles. Confirmed Xbox's console pages list expansion cards as supported and matching internal storage performance. Confirmed When we checked on October 7, Seagate's page showed the card out of stock with a notify option. Confirmed Stock changes, so check before relying on it.
