GTA 6 pre-load andfile size
Pre-loading opens November 12. The official install size has not been announced, so here is what is confirmed, what is only an estimate, and how to make room.

What is confirmed
- Pre-load starts November 12, 2026 for digital pre-orders, one week before launch. Confirmed GTAbase reports it opens at local midnight, which we could not confirm on a Rockstar page. Unconfirmed
- Physical copies hold a download code inside the box and are available starting November 12 to support pre-loading, per Take-Two. Confirmed
- The PlayStation Store listing mentions 7-day pre-load access. Confirmed
- The game is not playable until it unlocks on November 19. See release date and unlock times.
What is not confirmed: the file size
Rockstar has not announced an official install size. On October 5 we opened the PlayStation and Xbox store listings and Rockstar's game page, and none shows a figure. We are not repeating any leaked numbers.
Press estimates exist, and none is official:

Our advice is to plan for a large game and leave a margin for a day-one patch. Do not buy storage yet on the strength of an estimate.
How to pre-load
Pre-loading on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
- Pre-order digitally on your console's store, or buy the physical edition and keep the code safe.
- On November 12 at local midnight, open the game's page in your library or download queue.
- If you have a physical code, redeem it first in the store, then start the download.
- Check the install size on the store page and make sure your drive has room.
- Start the download on a wired connection if you can, and let the console install in rest mode.
- Leave it installed. The game unlocks for play on November 19, then you launch it as normal.
Freeing space
- Sort your library by size and remove games you finished. You can re-download them later.
- Delete old captures and recorded clips.
- On PS5, PlayStation says a compatible M.2 SSD can raise storage up to 8 TB. A PS5 game stored on a USB drive has to be moved back to the internal SSD before you play it. See our hardware guide.
- On Xbox Series X|S, a storage expansion card is the console-specific option. Check Xbox's own page for what it supports.
- Clear space before November 12. We expect, but do not know, that the size will appear on the store listing close to pre-load day. Estimate
How big is GTA 6?
Not announced. Estimates are not official.
Can I pre-load a physical copy?
Yes. The box holds a code, and you can pre-load from November 12.
